You sit down to watch some TV after a long day. You flip on your favorite channel and all you get is a screen that says “no signal.”
Not only is this aggravating, but it can also be extremely confusing since it doesn’t tell you exactly what the problem is and why you aren’t getting any signal. Where do you even know where to begin?

Correct the Input
If your TV says “no signal” but the cable box is on, it could be because of the input. Check if this is only happening on one of your TVs. If it is, make sure that TV is on the correct source or input as your cable box.
You can usually resolve this by pressing the “input” button on your remote. Check the input your cable box is plugged into, and find it in your TV. If the two go together, the “no signal” should be gone.
Reset Your Cable Box

Remove the power cable and keep it unplugged for about 2 to 3 minutes. After that time, plug it back in and give it a few more minutes to boot back up. Try and turn on your channels to see if this worked.
Check Your HDMI
In some cases, figuring out how to fix “no signal” on TV screens come down to the high definition multimedia interface or the HDMI. If an HDMI’s cables or ports are slipping out or aren’t fitting properly, that might be causing the problem.
Simply find where the HDMI port is on your cable box or TV, pull it out, and plug it back in. Ideally, you’d want a self-locking HDMI that’ll stay in place. There’s a chance your HDMI is damaged, at which point you’ll need a replacement.
Troubleshoot With Your Antenna
If you still receive cable through an antenna connection, no input signal on the TV might mean you’ll need to rescan for your channels.
This might be different for some TVs, but try and find the “setup” or “settings” option on your TV menu by hitting your “menu” button on the remote. If you find “antenna set-up” or something related to it, you’ll likely be able to rescan your channels.
You might also need a new TV antenna if you’ve had your old one for a while. Digital TV antenna installation is relatively simple and will be worthwhile for most casual TV watchers.
