Inflamed Scalp: Signs and Management

Skin inflammation is a common instance where you witness blemishes, breakouts, redness, eczema, flakiness on your skin. Inflammation is not restricted to your skin and may occur on your scalp as well. 

Scalp inflammation can be tricky to identify. In some instances, you may not figure out the problem at all. But as it starts increasing in size, it may become a point of concern for many. Why? Because inflammation on your scalp may even lead to hair loss. 

Inflammation and hair loss go hand-in-hand. And if you do not address the problem at the right time, you may have to opt for more serious medical treatments to treat the problem.

Oiliness and flakiness: 

The extreme build-up of oil or dandruff and the flakiness that follows can be a reason for an inflamed scalp. Build-up may not be so much of a sign, however, a precursor to the problem. An excess build-up of these elements may irritate your scalp tremendously. 

A significant amount of dandruff in your scalp suffocates hair follicles. If the problem is not treated on time, it may as well lead to hair fall, and the speed may multiply in great numbers. Do not overlook the excess build-up, and get in touch with your doctor at the right time. 

Pain on the scalp: 

If you are constantly sensing too much stress or pressure on your scalp, it could signify inflammation. The feeling of discomfort constantly lingers on your head. It might hurt to comb your hair. According to a few studies, if you are suffering from inflammation, there are high chances of experiencing pain in your scalp. 

This pain can be anything ranging from swelling to tightness on your scalp. Too much tightness may as well affect the nerves on your head and lead to itchiness. In this situation, it is rightful to visit a dermatologist and get yourself checked. 

Redness on the scalp: 

An inflamed scalp may become red. A red scalp may as well be a result of over-washing your hair with harsh chemicals. Another reason for redness of the scalp includes psoriasis or eczema. 

A famous dermatologist suggests that two different classes of inflammation may be associated with a red scalp, namely, perifollicular erythema or seborrheic dermatitis. Unfortunately, both these conditions remain incurable. But you can use some topical products to control the redness and the inflammation to some extent. 

Managing inflamed scalp: 

Upon experiencing one or more of the above-listed signs, you should have a word with your dermatologist. It is strictly advised not to apply any topical medication without consulting the doctor as they may suggest the best solution to your problem. 

You can manage the inflammation on your scalp with some home remedies as well. Many experts suggest that oiling your hair regularly can help you do away with the build-up of flakes and scales. Oiling your scalp boosts the blood circulation to your hair follicles. It also ensures deep nourishment and keeps dirt at bay. Eventually, you not only end up managing inflammation but hair fall as well. 

Some experts also suggest double-cleansing your scalp at least once a week. For this, you must use a gentle sulfate-free shampoo. Ensure that the second round of cleansing is deeper and cleaner to give you a shinier and salon-grade mane. 

Other ways to manage inflammation on your scalp include a good diet, exercise, meditation, proper sleep cycle, et al.
